One of the things we do at Rally (Rally!) is this:
We dream up superpowers.
Nothing fancy. Just whatever pops into your head in a given moment.
Some are fun. Some are silly. Some are weighted, some have capes, some are bashful, some come with provisos and caveats, some live in snow globes, some are lighter than air.
I have been collecting some of these superpowers and found that they wanted to be proclaimed. In fact, they wanted to be together. Like a kind of poem.*
So here we are.
These are my superpowers.
I can see things growing, as they’re growing. I can see them.
And I see what is there. I see what is not there.
To see through fog. Like headlights.
To know what needs to be said and what does not need to be said.
The right words appear at the right time. To name things that need names.
I can remember why I love things even when I’m not doing them.
How to find the useful in every piece of hard.
Wherever I go there is a portable refueling station.
All doors open for me.
Colors become sharper. Boundaries become apparent.
My force field becomes stronger every day.
I have a precise compass. A precise, loving compass.
Sweetness surrounds me.
Important things about superpowers.
If someone’s superpower appeals to you, it’s okay to decide you want it too.
You can begin to let that superpower begin to sift into your force field.
You do not diminish someone else’s powers by bringing a superpower into your world. There is enough for everyone. And you’re not taking it from them.
Not only can you have a superpower that someone else has named, but you can also call on some of the superpowers of the Playground, and make them yours:
Creativity, inspiration, safety, play, power, freedom, comfort, sweetness, endless possibility.
And of the Rally: Trust, silliness, experimentation, sovereignty, autonomy, support, wonder, pie. Rally!**
And of this blog: Reassurance, permission, acceptance, the ability to make up fake bands on the spot, steadiness, home.
They are there for you when you need them.
Playing! And today’s comment zen blanket fort.
Invoking a superpower is like slipping a message to your unconscious.
All these different parts of you have to start figuring out what you know about this power, and how to apply it. Which is awesome.
Being willing to be surprised is useful. It’s a practice.
And even if you’re pretty sure that the power you wish for has nothing to do with you, it’s a worthwhile experiment to stop and feel what happens when you name it.
So I thought it would be fun if we could do some naming of powers we’d like to have in our individual force fields. Play with me? Yay. Thank you!
* We had an accidental poem once, plus moons, rain, protection and a mess of iguanas.
** The February Rally is just about full but there’s still some room in March. Take a look. Rally!
I’ll go first!
The superpower I would like to have in my force field today is:
The ability to swiftly prioritize things, with total confidence and assurance that the order that appears is a good one.
And to trust that order is an organic thing that can shift, move, break down into components and re-form, just like Dance of Shiva.
I would like to have the superpower of a Clean House (not for me to clean it–just to think it and it’s done!)
I would like the superpower of Task Completion! Organization! Confident Decision-Making!
Until that happens, my superpower is still Whining.
The superpower I am craving today is the ability to connect with EXACTLY the right people.
I’d also love the Clean House superpower that Marie invoked — awesome idea, Marie!!
My superpower is to stay calm and centered regardless of what’s happening around me
The superpower I would like to invoke today?
Magic-time.
You know…that way time has of slowing down when you’re really enjoying a thing so that you look at the clock and say, wow! I still have another hour to enjoy doing this!
The superpower I want for today is RAINBOW.
Which means:
balance
flow
sparkle
order
trust
Oh yes. Inviting that in feels better already.
(Yesterday I literally spent the day in a blanket fort I made in my art room. I crawled in there and recorded meditations all day. Today, I feel like I just got back from a fantastic retreat, even though I actually got a ton of work done yesterday. Blanket Fort FTW)
Wow, I needed this today.
Today in central Maryland I would like the superpower of weather and temperature control (so we get snow, not sleet and freezing rain) and highway de-icing management.
But what I really need are the ones you listed, Havi and Marie! Especially prioritizing *right now.* Because I have things to do today which the weather may interfere with later on. (I am already well versed in Whining! Sigh.)
So I should figure out how to get that message to my unconscious self, to invoke what is already there inside the force field if I can find it? Invoke — I like the definition “to create or arouse an idea, emotion, or image.”
– The idea for confident prioritizing is “always starting” (temporarily bypassing stuckness).
– I think the emotions could be anticipation + joy = optimism, leading to interest, focus, flow.
– The image is of setting my timer for 20 minutes and then starting any prioritizing or action effort. And then doing it again.
(And remembering everything will happen as it should. And watching for moments of surprise.)
“Wherever I go there is a portable refueling station” YAY! I have that one too! But I never would have known that was what it was called if you didn’t have the superpower of naming! So brilliant!
The superpower I would like to invoke today is clear vision at work – knowing why I am here and what I need to do to make it the best it can be. And if I had that awesome naming power I would come up with a more fun way to say it 🙂
Thank you!
My current superpowers:
*trying new things
*simplifying
*resting
*finding the stuck spot in the system
*sparkling on command
*loyalty
*tenacity
Superpowers I would like to add today:
*knowing what i need in the moment
*knowing how to meet the need immediately
*fun
I would like the superpower of responding to chaos with ease. Yes, I would.
This is so awesome. I heart superpowers.
Invoking superpowers was on of my very favorite things about Rally!
This is a perfect reminder. Thank you!!
🙂
The superpower I want today is the ability to find flow in banal, everyday chores. Because I have so many of them to to today!
Today’s superpower, much like every day’s superpower, is Shapeshifting.
Fluidly moving to adapt to any situation, need, and idea that comes my way. Clear eyes and a steady heart to recognize and identify a need; shifting to be what is needed, when it’s needed, and then moving on to meet the next need when the first is taken care of. Freedom. Flow. Ease.
Great idea! I want… the power of curiosity in the face of regimentation. Regimentation and scheduling make me feel overwhelmed. I want to see the schedule as a way to make the day have unexpected free time! I want to see it as a tool, not a box, and to see if, once I relax into this order, I am even more happy for having structure.
I want my superpower to be writing. I will write blog posts, and poems (accidentally and on purpose), and Someday Books, and the most amazing grocery lists EVER. Somehow, they transcend all boundaries of the written word ever conceived by mere mortals. Because, of course, I will not be a MERE MORTAL anymore.
Also? I would like the superpower of a glowing finger that I could turn on and off, in case I need a light in the dark. Or someone else needs a light, either way.
I want superpowered love. So that everyone who comes into contact with me will feel loved, not just loved-by-me but you know, *fundamentally lovable*. Cosmically hugged. And it’ll stay with them. And I’ll be able to feel that love for myself too.
I want the super power to sleep well tonight and to wake up feeling light, warm and safe inside about the day ahead at work.
One of each, please.
And mainly: Unilateral Ease,
aka Instant Retreat.
Ahhh.
Thank you!
Oh Eve, what a great superpower, so beautifully said. I want that one. Also, the ability to see exactly what comes next and be able to do it well.
I invoke the super power of creativity and prolific writery! The author super power!
I’m going to need it this week.
Hey @Eve – guess what? It just worked.
*little tear of gratitude*
What a supremely super power. Thank you.
Right now, I am invoking my superpowers of calm and comfort. Step inside my circle and you can feel the warmth; you can feel tension and distress gently melting away, leaving us wrapped in peace and rest.
And of course, I can use this power on myself as well, which is a very good thing, because oh, do I need it!
@Kat: thank you, that’s wonderful!
@Tricia & Claire P: wow, I wasn’t expecting it to start working already! Thank you <3
My superpowers are:
I am totally keeping track of organizational things at work with ease.
Whenever there is some organizational thing that needs to be resolved I am finding a solution that people will be grateful for.
I know my limits and draw the line when it needs to be drawn in a sovereign way.
I am not stressed out by money matters.
Also invoking attention, curiosity, wonder and gratitude superpowers to take into the daily mundane house and money and paperwork work I have to do. (Oooh is it reeeally mundane??)
All doors open for me – yes please. It just sort of flew off the screen to me.
And: – seeing how things will take form
– staying in the centre of the chaos
– knowing how to shape things
Awesome! And the Power of the Stripey Socks too….
To understand why the bit about not diminishing someone else’s superpowers when you invoke it for yourself drew tears from my eyes.
And more, the superpower of knowing what that emotional response means, where it comes from and to be able to understand and supply the need it expresses and build that into everyday.
And with some practice, and confidence, to offer that to others. To do for them, or to soak into their forcefield so they can see for themselves, as and when they choose.
PS: Dance of Shiva? I just learned the basic positions and my brain has had a few buttery epiphanies. Buttery because they are slippery little things! But so yummy. More jam might make them stick better.
Today I am “Avoidance Girl”, or at least right now. Maybe later I will put on my daisy dukes, cowboy boots and big hair and turn into “Git R Done Girl” (there is a shirt too, LOL, hard to “Git R Done” if the girls are flapping in the breeze)
I had to come back and just say ‘Superpowers for the win!’.
Today, I’d like to invoke the superpowers of Easy, Compassionate Communicator whilst Firmly Being Me. I’d also like to invoke Easily Intimate, a.k.a., Comfortably Social. See also: charming. ;-}
love this game!
xoxo
Oh, @TyBarbary, I want your shapeshifting one!!! Moving from role to role with clearness.
And I want to be able to sense when a monster is approaching and calm it down before it has a chance to even start on me.
Today, I need to invoke the superpower of Starting The Next Thing That Needs To Be Done.
Interestingly, saying this has made me realize that I already HAVE the superpower of Knowing What To Do Next, which is something that never occurred to me before! However, I think the power is just a little too strong, because it also tells me a whole bunch about What To Do After That. And I don’t need that much information all at once, because then I’m in Overwhelm City.
So I guess I need a superpower of Blocking Out The Next Nexts…
Oh! OH!!! I get it! If I know what to call it, then I have a handle I can use to invoke whatever shred of it that I may have! It’s like a magic spell!
So, I’ll just flourish my magic wand (aha! now HERE’S a good use for my letter opener!) and utter an incantation that casts the “Blocking Out The Next Nexts” spell…
BAM! Blue sparkles burst forth, and I trace a spiralling path with the wand to scatter the sparkles all around me. They settle gently, then fade into a gentle glow. I turn my eyes to The Next Thing. I calmly point my magic wand at it, and murmur, “Abra-ca-Starting!”
