I miss the world of Rally (Rally!)
If you do not know what a Rally is, this is the idea that gave birth to the Rally.
It is a word — and concept — worthy of being enthusiastically exclaimed. And repeated. Rally!
Here is what I’m missing.
Everything that happened here at Sally the Rally the 1st.
Oh, the feather boas and the dancing around and the hilarity and the drinking of tea.
But mainly the massive getting done of stuff needing to be done.
Because the point of the Projectizing Rally is ridiculous amounts of done.
And not the done that emerges from guilt, stress or panic. It’s the doing that comes from feeling grounded, supported, excited, curious and inspired.
And zippy! Not forced zippiness, though. The kind of zip that shows up when you’re in the right place or wearing the right costume.
Aside from getting crazy amounts of stuff done:
It’s about the good parts of isolation: quiet, spaciousness, purpose, intention, clarity.
But without having to be in isolation, which, as Barbara so wisely says, is the dreamkiller.
The good parts of community: collaboration, shared goals, the power of a group.
But without having to be in the group, because you get your own time and do your own thing.
Anyway, I really, really want to be rallying again. Rally! Okay. I’m a little obsessed.
So I made up a list.
Of everything I’m working on that could really use a Rally right about now.
It is long.
The top two things, though, are these:
- Create a DIY Rally Kit-like-thing: so you guys will have the provisions and skills to rig your own Rally (Rally!), even when you can’t be with us at the Playground.
- Editing my 2011 and 2012 (tentative) schedules, based on needs and numbers.
Needs meaning everything that’s in the book of me. And numbers not necessarily being financial numbers. Just, you know, numbers.
Like this: I spend 45 minutes preparing for each client call, and another 20 minutes clearing out after. Or this: we spend a few thousand dollars a year on postage.
Anyway, numbers. I need to do some processing. Plus it’s been almost a year since I’ve had a round of giant sweeping changes in the business. Now seems good.
Here’s how this is going to work.
I’m going to make crazy progress on both of these at the next Rally. In the meantime, I’ll meditate on which of these gets rallied first. Or possibly flip a coin.
Either way, there is going to be a Rally and it is going to be fabulous.
Here are the dates:
Monday, October 11 at 5pm through Thursday, October 14 at 5pm
The next Rally (or, at least, the next Rally that is longer than just one day) will not be happening until end of January.
So. Sequence.
I’m telling you this now.
This afternoon I’m going to rewrite the page where you sign up, because I wrote most of it before I knew just how ridiculously effective rallying would be.
Then it goes to my designer to make it pretty. And then at Drunk Pirate Council, the First Mate and I will likely move the prices up to something not quite as symbolic.
If you can make it, it would be so very lovely to Rally with you.
Reminders.
- If you’ve signed up for the Week of Biggification (password: pickles), you get one Rally as a bonus. You can come to this one or you can come to one next year.
- We will keep the rallying small.
- You don’t have to know what your project to be projectized is yet.
- Obviously, everyone who comes will get the DIY Kit too when it’s ready.
I think that’s it.
Consider this the official shovel in the dirt for Rally the 2nd: Who Let the Iguanas Out. Or whatever I’m calling it tomorrow.
I’m headed to the Playground. But first I have to buy a bunch of gourds.
Here’s the pre-gorgeousness Rally page again.
If you would like, aside from celebrating and waving checkered flags for Rally (Rally!), I would love to get some help in the comments with:
- ideas for good schwag
- names for the next Rally (January)
Can’t wait to meet the next group of Rallions (or was it Rallyscallions?) and to get the DIY Rally-Rig thing done so everyone else can play too. Big love to everyone. Wild zen rumpus!
Oh, Rally, I do need thee! Wish I could be there, Havi. Meanwhile, I’ll look forward to your Rally Kit, and rustle up some feather boas!
Love, Hiro

Mmm. January. How about something to the tune of Brand Spanking Newness. Or On Your Mark, Get Set, Saunter?

I would love to come to the Rally, but the timing is not right for me yet. So I’m very excited about the potential of the Rally Kit! May I be allowed to hope that it might contain detailed instructions on how to build a blanket fort, with, like, multiple elevations and floor plans and diagrams? Because that would be awesome.
So, would the kit mean that we can throw projectising iguana tracking rallies in, like, local places, for people on the wrong side of the atlantic, for instance?

@Rupa — I love those titles! Oh boy. Makes me excited for January, and that is pretty difficult 🙂
RALLY! I am so psyched for everyone who will end up there. All the right people at the right time. I know there are certain people out there right now, feeling that little tickle in the brain, that hey-I-could-go feeling, and I hope they follow it like I did. So, so rewarding and important and amazing and life-changing.
I would come again if I didn’t have a wedding in Boston that is smack in the middle of the October Iguana Rally. Ah well.
But! It will be so thrilling to know that a Rally is going on that I just know it will send me extra good energy and excitement, even if I’m not there. That’s just how powerful it is going to be.

Schwag….I think possibly a signed photo of Selma. That would be so fabulous. To hang on my wall….to remind me of what is important. To remind me that Ducks are VERY important. Especially Pirate Ducks. And I can’t even COME to the rally (Rally!) but I still think that would be an awesome thing to come home with.
And now I’m terrified to post this. Because…I’m worried people will think I’m crazy-wierd. But…you are discussing feather boas so I’m hoping its all ok…eeek!

Ohhhhhh man I wish I could be there! I’m launching my baby rock-n-roll-entrepreneur-crazyness Oct 1! But alas, my finances inform me this is not to be. I am a sad panda.
I am also looking forward to the kit! I am all over that, dude. It will be on like Donkey Kong.

I’m disturbed by the serendipity. When I read this I had JUST had an idea for a similar concept, which I was going to call a ‘workparty’! I’m also on the wrong side of the Atlantic, but will be cheering you on from afar.
I found your blog yesterday and I already love you. 🙂

Another amen for the kit! Because I am ON the Atlantic (and not the Pacific) and therefore very far from the Rally, and while I wish I could make sense of it in a way that would make it work, but….
I can’t.
So. What I am wanting is a Havi Outpost Kit. For us to set up outposts far from the home base.
Perhaps the Rally kit is part of that?
Glad, anyway, that you do these things.

Rally! Whee! Here I am, wildly waving my checkered flags. In fact, I think checkered mini-flags might make good schwag. Flag schwag!
I also like the idea of pictures of Selma. (@Ella — Ducks are VERY important!) Oh, and permission slips, and magic wands, and tiaras (not the expensive kind…) and maybe glitter sticks? And something with a Rally-themed picture on it — a T-shirt or tank top, or a cup, or a key fob.
Mini-Slinkys? Glowsticks? Very tiny blankets, for making tiny blanket forts, in which perhaps Tiny Sweet Things may be housed while they grow?
My goodness. I think there’s something about the very notion of schwag that brings out the “Ooo, shiny!” little kid in me.

Havi, I would just like to let you know that I appreciate you letting us know this far in advance that the next Rally will be sometime around the end of January. I would really love to drop everything and come to the October Rally, but my money is tied up elsewhere. I like that I now have the time to plan and budget for it at the end of January. Same with Chris Guillebeau, who announced his World Domination Summit would be in June 2011, and it would be approximately $X. While X is a lot of money to drop at once (for me), spread out over ten months, I can absolutely sock away a small amount each month so I can afford it when the time comes. So thank you!

Oh, Rally Kit! Yes, please! I’m in Australia and probably won’t be coming to a rally any time soon, but I want to rally things up here.
I had already made a deal with my housemate to deal with our paper piles on Melbourne Cup Day (a public holiday when we’d both be at home), and I was going to make a ritual of it and light candles and so forth, and reading this made me realise that I wanted to turn it into a rally. A pirate-map archive rally! I will wear my pirate skirt and blouse and a corset and my airship pirate boots. I will do Shiva Nata and yoga before I start, which I’ll probably need to combat the sitting-on the-ground-bending-over-map-piles stiffness.
