The Playground calendar is here.
I actually cried when I saw the first one.
Tears of happy-delight and oh-the-cuteness, but also because it is the most beautiful, simple, glowing, play-filled physical thing that I have created.
A tiny sweet thing! Look at its toes!
Other than the actual Playground, of course. But the Playground is so much a part of this calendar that they both exhale the same sweet magical air.
Their internal culture is the same.
I had this idea that I’d be able to describe it.
But I can’t.
Every time I want to try, I get lost in looking at it again.
And then a good ten minutes disappear while I am entranced with each month, and giggle over its sweetness.
Words really do not do this calendar justice. How many times can I say MAGICAL and know that I’m not even beginning to transmit the meaning? Pictures don’t either.
Not even slightly. This calendar is insanely gorgeous, instantly uplifting, and so full of play and possibility that you want to go skipping through fields humming your favorite song.
And planning marvelous plans!
Also: is there anything more fabulous than a pensive hobby horse wearing a magenta wig?
In fact, it shouldn’t even share the same name with other calendars.
Hey, metaphor mouse! What do you call a calendar that’s so out of the league of other calendars that it’s become something else entirely?
It’s like a portal.
Ah, words. I wish I could put this portal in your hands right this second so that you could experience it.
All I can do is tell you stories…
My wonderful friend and colleague Cairene came to the Playground last week and saw one. Cairene is wise, thoughtful, and unbelievably creative about time. She thinks about time more than anyone I know.
Anyway, she fell madly in love with the calendar and couldn’t put it down. She said, “THIS is the calendar I have always wanted and didn’t even know it!”
Then another friend’s husband came by, and he couldn’t put it down or stop exclaiming over it either.
My realtor saw it and instantly wanted one for herself.
We sent them out last week to everyone who pre-ordered, and have been flooded in joyful and enthusiastic appreciation letters.
Thirty six!
The First Mate, who is very good at things like this, saw how sad I was that more people wouldn’t get the calendar. And he ordered another batch. A bigger one.
Most of which have already disappeared because people visiting the Playground have grabbed them.
But there are thirty six still available.
Each month has a space to name that month, plus a Hello and a Goodbye.
And Toozdays are spelled just like that. Fridays get a chicken reminder.
The calendar was originally part of the Gwish Kit so the price includes tuition to a class I’m teaching on how to do creative and magical things within time restrictions, and many of the brilliant things I have learned about this from Rally (Rally!).
I am putting on the hat!
Yes, that hat.
If you want a Playground calendar-portal that will make you cry happy-tears of possibility and get you dreaming of secret plans, you can still do this.
And you get to come to my (online) workshop about time and sneaky ways to get things done, of course.
Here’s the very quiet Gwish Kit page:
I don’t know how long this will stick around but if there are any left by Sunday (???), I’ll try to mention it in the Very Personal Ads.
Play with me! And the commenting blanket fort….
You can be my Enthusiastic about this beautiful, tiny sweet thing being REAL! And being even more beautiful than I could have imagined.
You can help invent magical words that are more fun than “calendar”.
You can plant hopeful gwishes for the new year.
And if you’ve already received yours in the mail (clever person who pre-ordered!), please tell us about how much you are in love with it…. 🙂
I am going back to looking at my new calendar and dreaming up dreams with it. It is my newest companion-in-play, my silliest partner-in-crime. And I need to go put on a wig and dance around the room.
If you want one of these, you can get one here. Or in the Playground Toy Shop. While supplies last.
Can’t even begin to afford this but so happy you’re so happy, yay!
Hanukka lights, Hanuka candles, playground calendars, candles, calendars, candles, calendars!
Yeah. Thank you. Awesome.
Just ordered.
This is a bittersweet consolation for not being ready for floating playground…if I were a nier mom I would give it to my son who has totally fallen in love with you but I am still a 2 year old at heart–MINE!
Todah! (or as your December photo model would say: Toads!)
Yay!!! When the calendar was originally part of the Gwish Kit, I couldn’t afford it, but, thanks to the magical powers of Rally (Rally!) bringing basketball back so I am working more (and a little present from Santa!), I can afford it now! And this is actually the perfect time for me to get the calendar because ever since I visited the Playground for The Great Ducking Out, I have been working on infusing its qualities and essence into my workspace! Yay for harmonious timing!
And yay for the First Mate for ordering more calendars! 🙂
Yay, I just bought one! I was having a money-related freak out when these originally went out on sale, so pleased to get a second chance.
Enthusiastic for the calendar! I totally love it.
I looked at the Gwish Kit II page and had an inspiration when I was reading about the Magical Elevator Shaft. I just realized that I have Magical Basement Stairs: they are the ones outside that lead up to ground level. They are covered by the deck, technically accessible since there is a trapdoor but totally not used.
I CAN use them! I can use them like the Elevator Shaft. And the scavenger animals will clean them out and if there is anything useful, they will find the usefulness.
Happy, happy. I think contemplating the glowing beauty of the calendar was part of the inspiration, so I’m going to encourage everyone to get one. I bet that having one in front of you would be even more inspirational and make lots of things more possible.
Yay for the calendar! Yay for magic!
About what to call the calendar: remember in Harry Potter where they have “ordinary” objects that take you somewhere else? the portkeys?
When you said the calendar was a portal, I thought of that. Maybe a portcal? A timeport?
@ VickiB – a timeportkey!
yes yes yes
also wanting to buy one 🙂
lo-ve-ly Havi!
So glad more were available. Ordered mine!
@VickiB & @Hannah, yes, timeportkey!
oh, sweet calendar! I love you so. I am so glad to have you in my space.
I stare at you and giggle with you and whisper dreams into your pages.
So much beauty and joy!
possibility!
play!
circles!
paths!
yes.
Santa, if you exist, please take all my presents back and bring me a little playground calendar.
I love it so much! I feel like it would be JUST THE THING.
Ah well.
So glad this blog is here, I have never commented, but I’m always reading it!
Enthusiastic for the gorgeous calendar-portal!!
I can’t wait to receive my Gwish kit 😀 Mine will probably arrive sometime in the next couple of weeks due to overseas shipping, but I shall flail delightedly on it when it arrives!!
*bounce bounce bounce*
In the little space provided, I have just named January the Moon of Embarking.
And then I barked. Bark!
And that, right there, probably says far more about this adorable, magical calendar than I could ever put into words.
I am an excited, happy little puppy today, and I look forward to a wonder-full, play-full 2012.
I think I want one…but I can’t find a price or a way to order one. Help?
