A somewhat goofy mini-collection of stuff I’ve been reading, stuff I’ve been thinking about and oh, some completely random crap.
Basically the stuff that never gets mentioned here because I’m not the kind of person who can just make some teeny little point. Not into the whole brevity thing, as the Dude would say.
Actually, I’m under the strict compulsion to write ten pages about anything on my mind. So this is me. Practicing brevity.
Even more brevity than usual … thanks to carpal tunnel.
Which I should be bitching about but am actually kind of loving because it allows me to outsource absolutely everything that’s not writing.
Pain. It really is that much more effective than Michael Gerber.
Item! Post No. 10 in the series that gives me something to do with all those windows I have open in Firefox.
Item! I am not the only person who has long, frustrating and sometimes amusing conversations with my body!
This is a terrific post from our very own Wormy about the answers you get when you try and listen to your body.
I read it three times. It rocks.
Very provocative. It will get you thinking about all sorts of useful and interesting things.
Also … typing out loud here … I may put together a collection of posts by people other than me who are also doing this whole “conversation with a part of myself”. Because I’m amazed by how many people are just doing it. In a powerful and non-cheesy way.
And having results like crazy.
So mention yours here if you like!
Item! Seth Godin is still my favorite thinker of thoughts!
Most biggified internet-ey people are not really all they’re cracked up to be, if you ask me.
Seth is, though.
He is that good. He is that smart. Everything he writes is worth reading. Carefully, thoughtfully and attentively.
Because it’s useful.
This post — love and annoying — is an especially important one.
Item! Thank you for saying this!!
I adore Amy Hoy for all sorts of reasons, but I especially loved this tiny piece of wonderfulness on Twitter (which I’m censoring because I suck):
“you entice me with “womens business network” (ok, i’ll bite) & then the post i see on your site is about weight loss? 2 words: @&#% you.”
Thank you.
Thank you. I have so much to say about this that I kind of need it to be the subject of a five-post-rant, but like I said, my hands hurt.
Here’s the short version.
At least a few times a week I get annoyed by something that’s supposedly for women in business (go away, Pink magazine) that’s really about buying shoes or looking hot.
Ew ew ew ew ew ew ew. Ew.
That is all. I love Amy.
Item! Sometimes other people explain your thing better than you!
Sari’s brilliant Shiva Nata post explains terrifically well the thing I’ve been trying to explain to the world for the past four years.
Or five. Whatever.
I talk a lot about the wacky yoga brain training work that I do. About how it has helped me as a consultant because of how quickly I can understand how systems work and find the connections between everything. About how I used it to learn German.
About how everything that appears to be some kind of innate talent of mine is actually something I acquired through this incredibly bizarre practice.
But Sari actually explains it. It’s fascinating. Read please!
Item! It’s still all about finding your Right People!
Obviously in business this is true. It’s also true in relationships, in creative ventures, in partnerships and in love.
Anyway, Steve Spalding wrote a lovely post about your Right People and the value of figuring out who they are.
Very useful.
Item! This is the funniest thing I’ve read all year that wasn’t written by Jenny!
“Making matters worse, Dewley was laid off from work late last week after mistakenly wrestling his boss’s wife, a dignified woman in a large peacock-feather hat, to the ground.”
And it just gets better. Man Gets Into Mess Usually Reserved For Stars Of Silent Film Era. Oh yes.
That is all.
Enough for now.
Selma and I will rest up and be back to our usual tricks tomorrow.
*blows kisses*
I had a fascinating experience with a boulder that was accepting good things. Or rather, I had a conversation with the part of me holding it off.
And don’t get me started on women’s magazines. I have issues with the way that they do features on anorexia or bulimia followed by a piece on how to lose 10lbs in five minutes. THEN followed by a piece on how to make really fattening food.
Sorry, I’m now ranting on your blog. I apologise, I shall stop now!

Hey! I had a conversation with my body too!
http://www.smlacyart.com/blog/a-new-definition-of-success/
I’ve actually been talking to my body for years (chronic illness will do that to ya) so if it’s crazy, I should have been locked up a long time ago.
And I really hope that your pain goes away soon 🙁 I know what that’s like and it’s seriously not pleasant.
I’m glad you’re back. Hope you’re feeling better 🙂
Several big thank yous here.
One, thank you for creating and putting out there the wonderful Starter Kit thingy that got me started with Shiva Nata in the first place.
Two, thank you for the kudos and link love. 🙂
Three, thank you for making us non-Kitchen Table-ites feel welcome here, too.
And thank you for being the supportive, non-judgmental presence on the Internets that you are.
Thank you!

Yay, Shiva Nata! *waves to fellow Shivanauts*
OK, I am not a Shivanaut quite yet- just ordered the Starter Kit and I am waiting for my DVD to get here. Excited nonetheless!
Havi: carpal tunnel, ouch! Really sorry to hear you’re in pain. I just made an appointment with my TCM/wunderbar acupuncturist for the exact same thing… not fun. I hope you’ll feel better soon and I’m sending you healthy wrist/hand vibes!
I don’t talk with my body. Yet, anyway. I’m glad to now have some cool stuff to check out to find out how.
However, I do talk with my stuff. My laptop. The pile of notepads on my desk. The business card that won’t go away.
We have nice talks, my stuff and I. Often my stuff is ready to go somewhere new (even the trash can), I just have to remember to ask it.
Anthropomorphizing? Maybe. But it works!
There is a local free publication for women named (name of city) Woman that I refuse to read. It purports to be all about inspiring women, but 90% of the ads are for plastic surgery/lipo, botox, etc. No thanks! Of course, the area has also been referred to as the “90210 of the South.” Talk about shallow 😉

Hi!
Jennifer pointed me to this thread.
I started talking to my body a looong time ago, but have particularly done that more since I’ve had Fibromyalgia.
I use a mish mash, self created approach adapted from Jungian “Inner Work” and a technique called Focusing (Eugene Gendlin).
Sometimes I gets answers … sometimes I don’t
But when I do they help.
Best, Lyle

I had an interesting conversation with the parts of myself here: http://www.billionairewoman.com/balance/what-do-your-boss-and-a-figure-skater-have-in-common/
I discovered that my inner boss and my inner figure skater weren’t seeing eye to eye. I was amazed at how the analogies really applied in my life too!
Thanks for being who you are Havi!

I use a technique called Core Transformation–developed by Connirae Andreas–to have little conversations with my parts.
It’s a very powerful technique in that a) it is very precisely laid out step-by-step and b) it goes all the way to the core of what your parts are wanting, leading to delicious states of oneness, peace, joy, etc. Sounds cheesy, but it is truly amazing.
I’ve also been doing this process with clients. Very, very cool work.
Thanks again for promoting growth that is whole.
Oh my god, women’s pretty-much-anything drives me crazy. It’s so depressing. Women’s magazines in particular. To quote Green Wing, ‘Why are these things so full of rubbish?’ I swear they actually have special software that just turns out the same ten articles with the words slightly rearranged.
As it happens, I’ve been trying out this talking to yourself malarky myself. Seems to be working. I’ve just been writing it up, in fact.
I am mostly apologetic about taking days to put a comment up on here. Teflon brain thinks “To do” and then moves on seamlessly to another thing to forget to do. THANK YOU lovely Havi & Selma for the amazing shout out.
Gobsmacked by the huge increase in my stats hehe.
Hope your carpal tunnel eases out soon – had RSI a few years ago and that was not fun, so sympathising hugely.

I’m the last girl to the party… again.
I have just been catching up on a backlog of my favorite blogs (down here in NZ, the internet is supah flaky)… and… WHOA.
NOW I know why my readership on Twitter has been increasing! Mystery solved, courtesy Havi… Thanks for the shout-out, and I’m so glad I’m not the only one. Sigh!
Also, wrong post but, I love love love LOVE your posts on talking to your stucknesses. A big, heartfelt “thank you” for sharing that.
