I went on an outing yesterday to buy some more presents for my tiny sweet thing.
That’s my beautiful Playground that I have been waiting for, dreaming of and dancing into reality these past few months.
Here is what we have so far:
— a baby blanket, of course.
— blocks and straps for Old Turkish Lady yoga.
— incense
— candles!
— a giant bowl of monsters
— two things to hang on the wall
— a singing bowl from Nepal that Hiro gave me.
— a bell from my favorite uncle.
— a mezuzah
— books
— water dispenser
— tea kettle
— bubble-bears!
— pirate costumes
— many silly hats (including my infamous pink angora beret)
And some of what we are waiting on, until the lease is signed:
— the hammock for the Refueling Station.
— the stage (it’s partially built)
— the floor (we’ve picked it out but haven’t picked it up)
— flowers
— a gorgeous lamp from Mary
— chairs
— cushions
— glasses for water and tea (already picked out)
A promise.
I was so moved by the spirit of Hiro’s lovely comment yesterday, which I have to quote here.
She whispered to her tiny, sweet thing:
My commitment: The porch light is lit for you. A warm bed and a fragrant bath waiting for you. Hyacinths bloom in a vase on your night stand. And a feast simmers on the stove to celebrate your arrival!
And then to mine:
My commitment: I’ll help Havi light sparkly Playground candles for you. We’ll stock up on bubble-blowing supplies, toys, costumes and other gleeful stuff. We’ll have a great party to celebrate the Gorgeousness of You.
Yes.
And so.
Here is my promise to the Playground that is coming in:
To welcome you in so many ways. To make sure you know that you are loved and adored.
To remember.
A silly, happy, joyful welcoming.
It’s not quite a party yet.
But it’s growing.
I’m passing around little glasses of champagne. And invisible whistles. If you want to wear one of my awesome hats, you’re more than welcome to.
Not ready to say the first hellos yet. But so, so, so close.
And comment zen for today …
You all get to be fairy godmothers, of course.
So any loving welcoming wishes you want to make for the Playground will be received with pleasure. It’s coming into form. I can feel it.
Also: please no advice or warnings about “not counting chickens”. I count chickens every Friday (we’re up to ninety so far), and it hasn’t done any harm yet. Thank you!
Picking up a floor seems like such an odd thing to do. Not bad, mind. I just keep having a literalist disconnect and imagining The Incredible Havi, with green skin and torn shorts. “HAVI LIFT!”
I wish you and the Playground only the best of luck. It really seems like things are coming together, and it’s so pleasing to see you pleased and excited when you were so stressed out about the Playground just a week ago. ♥
Putting on my fairy godmother tiara to say: welcome tiny sweet thing, welcome playground. Lately, I’ve been seeing pirate flags and other pirate stuff everywhere (really, the oddest places) and every time I remember the pirate-ey goodness that is making it’s way into the world. Arrr!
Havi,
Congratulations on your new playground!
I hope your work turns into play.
I hope you play every day!
I hope I will get to play there one day, too!
Am I sensing some pirate yoga coming on? Ar! Now be the time for downward-facin’ dog!
Hardy har!

There may or may not be a tiara and a sparkly wand over here. My wish for the Playground today is grace, in all its beautiful forms and meanings, both within and around. (And, lest a wish seem like a burden, remembrance that grace can still occasionally look clumsy, and that’s okay too.)
Wow–I’ve never met you Havi, and you’d kick me in the shins…you’re pretty badass!!
I’m new here, so I won’t ask…(although I do own shin guards for kickboxing!), but whatever the derivation of “baby” I wish it all the love, nurturance, foundation, support and success that “it” and you desire.
Thanks for the stimulating the brain, and I look forward to becoming more fluent.
Linda

This is so wonderful, and even more so for you sharing it with us. I realised today I have my own sweet thing that needs encouragement and love; so I’ve begun to write it a letter! Thank you for sharing this process with us.
It’s going to be the luckiest playground around, with us and you as carers.
Welcome, little one.

Pass a hat…Lightly a metaphorical rose scented candle and wishing relaxed joy for you. And that south east England was closet to Portland.
Hello playground!
i am so excited about your birth! I think the world needs more playgrounds-for-adults, more space for joyfulness. I would love to come hang out with you if i ever get the chance.
welcome!

You guys! Thank you for the well-wishing. It is beautiful. Mwah!
The playground is appreciating all that love from so many different places.
Oh and Hiro wrote a poem. Awwww. This is the BEST. Welcoming. Ever.
@Linda – ha! I won’t really kick you in the shins. My bark = totally louder than bite. Thank you for the sweet, sweet wishes.
@Beth – a possible wand is the best kind! Yay.
@Eric – pirate yoga! I can just see the Old Turkish Lady thing morphing into rapscallions of the high seas. Arrrr indeed.
@inge – tiara! Love.
@Chris – *giggles* The Incredible Havi lifting the floor with her enormous Shivanautical arms. I wish. But not really. It’s a floating cork floor that comes in pieces that we will put together. So more likely I will be picking up boxes that hold sections of floor. But your visual is way more awesome.
Hugs all around. You guys rock.
p.s. @rose – I love that this is inspiring you for *your* sweet thing. Perfect!
Donning a hat and toasting you, little playground.
You are being “danced into reality”! I love that a Shiva Nata practice comes with a whole range of gorgeous diction to describe how you are emerging in the world.

Oh my dear tell me what kind of awesome hat you and your Playground desire and I’ll send it straightaway from my pile o’chapeaux….
and a song sung to sing it into being! Jazz, blues, chant, choral, country…you name it and I’ll sing it!
Love and celebration to bring this great work into fruition.
XXOO!

Oh, my favorite part of Sleeping Beauty, the three fairy godmothers in their colorful outfits.
My gift is that of joy in all of its forms, from quiet angel refueling stations to wild flailing with laughter.

Very exciting, indeed! I’d love to be a fairy godmother. I already have a wand 🙂 I can’t wait to get to the Playfound so I can leap on the stage and don a pirate costume. The Playground has already been infused with such love and joy. I could feel it as I read your post. Hoorah Havi!
Dear Playground,
I have yet to meet you, but ever since I’ve read the first little thing about you, I’ve loved you. I’m so happy that you are now *this* close to being born, so happy to know that the world will soon be graced with your wonderful existence.
If there’s anything this fairy godmother can do for you, please ask: I’ll be delighted to have the opportunity to wave my wand and sprinkle fairy dust.
Big love,
xo

Dear little Playground:
I love that you are being dreamed and danced into existence, and I cannot wait to meet you. I am blowing bubbles full of happy wishes for you and everyone whose life you touch – they will float on the wind until they can float through your front door.
So much love,

Yay Playground! Welcome Playground! You are well-loved, even by those of us who may (alas) never meet you (though perhaps we will, who knows?)
Thank you Havi for sharing your wonderful process and lighting the way.

Dear Playground,
I live on the other side of the globe. And though, I feel very excited that you are coming into being. Because you are a Dream Come True. Wherever you spring up, you will be sending ripples of Very Good Things Indeed all around you. Which might even reach the place where I am, however far.
I want to welcome you by making the solemn (giggle) promise that, if I ever come to Portland, OR, I will visit you and bring you gifts. There will only be one of me, but I can be something like your Three Kings, guided by a star, and bringing gold (or sparkly things), incense (you already have that, but you’ll need a steady supply), and myrrh, although you might have no use for it…
Until then, be wonderfully well!
Havi, it’s so exciting that your project is coming together. I wish I could send you something beautiful but that’s not possible so instead I shall send you lots of lovely Playground birthing energy.
