A somewhat goofy mini-collection of stuff I’ve been reading, stuff I’ve been thinking about and oh, some completely random crap.
Basically the stuff that never gets mentioned here because I’m not the kind of person who can just make some teeny little point. Not into the whole brevity thing, as the Dude would say.
Actually, I’m under the strict compulsion to write ten pages about anything on my mind. So this is me. Practicing brevity.
Oh yes.
Today’s Items (Item!) are extra-tiny.
Double-brevity points for me!
Is it laziness? No, it’s a writing exercise. Or something.
Item! Post No. 50 in a series that has actually gotten to 50. How very unlikely.
Item! Rethinking the resolutions thing.
Shannon, one of the excellent Group Leaders at my Kitchen Table, now for the second year in a row, is teaching an [intriguing + absurdly affordable] class on not setting resolutions but getting what you want anyway.
And creative thinkery around goals. Details on Shannon’s blog.
Shannon is @shannonmw on Twitter + co-teacher Janine from Peace Of Mind Organizing is @janinea.
Item! This shouldn’t be funny but it is.
Even though it doesn’t sound like it would be.
A montage of scenes where characters say the name of the film they are currently in. Love.
Via Laughing Squid — @laughingsquid on Twitter.
Item! Reusable Gift Wrap.
A kooky, neat, sustainable idea. From cloth.
It’s called Midori-dori and while I found the site kind of hard to use, I think I’m going with the hula girls.
Via claire who is @catskittyns on Twitter.
Item! A Very Personal Ad for feedback.
You’ll think I know a million artists named Fi bu it’s really only two so far.
This one wrote a Very Personal Ad asking for feedback on her Found Creatures Series. Take a look at her Etsy store too.
Can we help?
She’s @wherefishsing on Twitter, which is an excellent Twitter name.
Item! The Cordless Mousewich with USB Cheese Stick from Insanewiches
Need I say more?
Probably. But I’m not going to because come on — Insanewiches!
Item! Happy dancing music.
Just like I said.
Via Sally who is @sally_j on Twitter.
Item! Do not get me these!
But they still made me laugh.
Yes, Freudian slippers.
Thanks, Kate, for pointing me here. I think.
Item! Transitions.
Great post from Cairene on Transitions. Usefulness!
Also she wrote favorable things about Roller Derby after I kind of forcibly dragged her there.
She’s @thirdhandworks on Twitter.
Item! Hark, a vagrant.
Have been … enjoying? getting used to? puzzling over? … these bizarre comics from Kate Beaton.
There are chimneysweeps and someone saying “Gentleman, I propose my bottom!”
She’s @beatonna on Twitter. Thanks to my Gentleman Friend for introducing me.
Item! We missed National Delurking Day. But it still made me laugh.
January 14th. National Delurking Day. Awesome.
So yeah. I didn’t comment because I am madame president chief Lurker of Lurkerville. But I did smile.
*blows kiss to my Beloved Lurkers*
Katie told me about it! She’s an economist who does yoga. Therefore I like her.
Item! If this isn’t a no-brainer, I don’t know what is.
You know how I always talk about Victoria because she’s amazing?
She’s doing a call about ways to use her No Brainer Scenario technique (which you may remember from previous Item-izing) to get clarity on stuckified things and to make stuff happen.
It’s this Tuesday (January 26) at noon Pacific and it doesn’t cost anything and you can read about it here.
She’s @victoriashmoria on Twitter.
Item! Update from the land of the Peculiar & Hilarious Shivanauts!
The “peculiar and hilarious” thing comes from Melynda’s sweet bit about Butterfly Wishes.
Oh. My. God.
I have so much to update and of course none of my notes are where I want them to be.
Wrote about why we’re sponsoring Roller Derby.
Dance of Shiva is really probably the only obscure yoga-based training about which you could easily say “that’s so punk rock”.
Anyway. Go read the post and drool over the gorgeous banner. More next time.
Item! Comments! Here’s what I want this time:
- Things you’re thinking about.
- An example of “good things in small packages” to make me feel better about my tiny items.
My commitment.
I am committed to giving time and thought to the things that people say. Even though asking for what I want still feels awkward for me, I’m just going to remind myself that this is a thing I’m practicing.
That is all.
Happy reading.
And happy Blustery Windsday. Or a Balmy one, if you’re Claire. See you tomorrow.
My god, those slippers are great. If I were more rich and less broke I would send them to all my old philosophy classmates.
And of course I meant psychology. Doubtless that was a Freudian slipper.
Ha! Did you read the caption on that Insanewich?
“Right click options: Save as snack; Add to meal favorites; Eat source; Export to kitchen table.”
I think people on the kitchen table would appreciate having some insanewiches exported, pronto.
Other good things in small packages: Bento boxes. Kittens. The Fiat 500. Relatively speaking.
Yay items!
I would be afraid those slippers were looking up my pj’s. LOL
Someone has an interview today. We are hoping for good news.
Yeah. 🙂
.-= Andi´s last post … Little Steps =-.
Good things in small packages? Well, this seems like a good time to tell you that I have a tiny teddy bear, about an inch high. He’s blue (my favorite color) and wears a white ribbon accented with a shimmering red heart. His name is Art. He isn’t a business partner like Selma, but he’s definitely a friend and counselor.
Something I’m thinking about: the upcoming Destuckification Retreat. I wish I could be there, and I’m wondering if perhaps I can give myself the gift of a little parallel solitary retreat. I could check the schedule, and try to follow along from afar. Of course it wouldn’t be the same, but it could still be a lovely little gift of self-nurturing.
*giggles at Kate* – oh, indeed, the philosophers! Awesome.
@Kathleen – that is a marvelous idea. Say hi to Art for me + Selma.
Oh, hooray for tiny items. Tiny! Tiny!
The Characters Say the Name of the Movie They are in video reminds me of
40 inspiration speeches in 2 minutes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6wRkzCW5qI
which is a triumph of movie knowledge and brilliant editing.
Other cool tiny item -when I was in college, I performed in nursing homes (broadway stuff) as a summer job I created for myself. and I had this great thing that the nurses LOVED. It was a jar labeled “Stool Sample” and when you opened it, it contained a 2″high, tiny wooden stool. They thought it was the funniest thing ever, and I loved bringing them a fun surprise…

AAAAAAA! I am loving Keepon the dancing robot. most favorite item ever!
And yay for Kate Beaton comics! I have been reading/following for awhile. Some others I read almost daily:
Girls With Slingshots by Danielle Corsetto
http://www.daniellecorsetto.com/gws.html
Nedroid by Anthony Clark. Beartato and Reginald are always just what i need.
http://nedroid.com/
Lucy Knisley does journal type comics every now and then. I love her work!

ok, I’ll stop for now. If anyone wants more links to things I read, here are my bookmarks: http://delicious.com/carrieam
Happy Wednesday everybody
Good things in small packages? So, glad you asked. How about knitting needles, of which I got my first pair in sleek bamboo and now carry them with me everywhere. They remind me that I can create even when I feel I cannot.
Yesterday I climbed a tree. For the first time in like 20 years. So I am currently thinking about how I don’t play nearly enough. Now I must go and locate a trampoline someplace, I think.
So I got to meet Kate Beaton this year.
She is so awesome IRL.
BTW, my favorite of her comics series are the ones where she draws her younger self, which you can find by going to http://www.harkavagrant.com/archivecat.php and scrolling down to the “younger self” category, and these two series, about her family:

Also an Item! from me:
Today marks the second time in my life when I have purchased a pen on a necklace because television made it cool.
The first time was (hella yeah!) Ghostwriter.
Always good to have a pen on a necklace…
Pygmy goats: both real ones and my varied gifted collection of small stuffed* & figurine-ish pygmy goats. Little goats, FTW! Seriously, can’t even say “little goats” without a sing-songy intonation.
Also, moleskines & their less expensive related cousins Picadilly journals and Field notes. And the cheap little sketch book with elastic closure I got last week that I WILL open today, at least to get it out of its plastic.
And getting a shoutout by name for a balmy windsday. Since my ask for this week went so infuriatingly wrong yesterday as to make me question the usefulness of any ask actually involving other people, it’s nice to see that sometimes it can work. Or at least that not all people suck.
@Kathleen My favorite bear I’ve had since…well, since we went to Hersheyland when I was 4ish is Blue, who happens to be blue. He’s not tiny but he sits on a shelf with some other trusted stuffed buds o’ mine including the pygmy goat below.
*It’s short for Rococo. Obviously.
Good things in small packages = my class that started tonight. Only three people- so small I was thinking of cancelling. SOOOO glad I didn’t! They are three of my exact right people and I’ll be so happy to see them every wednesday night for the next 5 weeks!
Has everyone seen the blog sodiapop? HILARIOUS and random.
Yay, adorable dancing robot! I’m hopelessly in love with that band Spoon which is pretty much… wait for it… just one guy. Er, plus a drummer.
Just delurking and bowing to the Queen of Lurkville!
This when I saw it, I thought I found it in one of your Item! posts. I think it would like to be here.

Thank you for all of the wonderful posts about how you cope. Nice to not feel alone with all of the “oh my god how can I possibly ever take time off” stuff.
